Two senate bills have recently been introduced that affect short-term rentals in Michigan:
Senate Bill No. 1144 - "A bill relating to the promotion of convention business tourism in this state; to provide for imposition and collection of an excise tax on the owners of certain short-term rentals; to provide for the disbursement of the excise tax; to establish the functions and duties of certain state departments and employees; and to prescribe penalties and remedies."

Senate Bill No. 1145 - "A bill to amend 2006 PA 110, entitled "Michigan zoning enabling act," by amending sections 102 and 207 (MCL 125.3102 and 125.3207), section 102 as amended by 2008 PA 12, and by adding section 206b."
